Living An Abundant Life Chapter 16 of 17

Building Your Own Team

Building a New Church

Today somehow we seem to think,

"I can do it by myself. I don't need all those other flaky Christians and all those people in the church who are a bunch of hypocrites. I don't need them to serve God."

I understand that the church system of today has moved far away from what God intended. We are not actually benefiting much from being involved in the kind of church that we see today.

That is why God is right now raising up a new church. And by God's grace, we are setting out now to show the world what the church should look like, and what the correct pattern should be.

I have taught extensively on this. I have lived these things, but I cannot do it alone. I need a team. I thank the Lord for the little team He has given us here, but we need more than that.

If we are going to reach the world for the Lord, we need a team that extends to the nations. Then together we can accomplish amazing things.

The Power of Unity

If we go back now to the Scripture we looked at at the beginning about the tower of Babel, we see that the Scripture says they were together as one.

They were in unity and they got in their heart and mind an idea. They were going to build this tower to make a name for themselves, create a reputation, and stick together.

Do you know what God said? He said,

"They will accomplish everything that they set their heart to do."

Why is that? Because they are human. And God has put into you as a human the ability to do amazing things.

As a believer, He has given you even more. He has given you the anointing and power of His Spirit to do even more.

But in the world, people are uniting together to fulfill their sinful goals and they are accomplishing amazing things. Satan has got the members of the church fighting each other and dividing each other.

They are each going their own way. They are tearing one another down, competing with one another, and accomplishing nothing.

The only way God could stop the building of the tower of Babel was to break the unity among the people. He did that by going down and changing their languages and their cultures so that they became different languages, different cultures, and different nations.

They didn't agree anymore. Each one wanted to pull their own way and the work came to an end. It did not come to an end because they didn't have the ability. It came to an end because they didn't have unity.

The Importance of a Team

Perhaps you have desired to do amazing things in this world and in this life. You have had goals and dreams to accomplish great things. And you have seen the promise of God's Word that He has called you to have an abundant life in this world.

You are saying, "Why do I not have this abundant life?"

Well, I would like to ask you how many people you are working with to accomplish this life. Or are you trying to do it all on your own? Are you competing with someone else who is trying to build their own little life, and hoping that you can do better than the other person?

You are going to fail. The Scripture says in Matthew 18:19,

Again I say to you, That if two of you will be in full agreement on earth concerning any circumstance that they should request for themselves, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven.

That doesn't mean that if you stand together in agreement God is now forced to give you what you asked for. It means that you combine your resources together and release God's power in this world.

It is said of the nation of Israel, that one could set a thousand to flight. But when two people got together they could put 10 000 into flight. Imagine if you could put 10 together.

Don't ever think that you are going to accomplish anything in this world, in ministry or in the Kingdom of God, without the help of others. It is not going to happen.

You will have to learn to work with a team. You must be prepared to trust other people with some of the things that you are doing, and each one must contribute together to the total job that you are doing.

If you don't do that you are going to fail. And if you want to live an abundant life all on your own you are also going to fail.

Where to Start

A good place to start is to get involved in a local church. You might say,

"What church do I go to?"

Most churches out there unfortunately are not following the correct pattern. So this makes it difficult, and many believers have just stopped going to church.

Those who are called to a ministry, especially the prophets are very often kicked out of the local church. They cannot get involved anywhere else and they become total loners.

They are always struggling. They always have financial lack, and are always facing rejection, because they are all on their own.

The only time they ever feel good is when they get together with a bunch of other prophets, and they commiserate with one another about what a terrible life they have had.

I don't believe this is the way God wants it to be. That is why God is bringing a new pattern.

Lord willing we are going to be part of bringing that new pattern to the Body of Christ. I hope to see it coming into being while I still have my journey on this earth. I want to see the new church of God arise, where God's people will unite together as one and make things happen.

You might say to me,

"I don't know where to start."

Here is how you do it. Find one person who is in full agreement with you in the Spirit, and who shares your core desire, your goal, and your dream.

Find just one person. You now have a church, because two believers united together as one is a church.

A church is not an organization or a building. It is more than one person united together in fellowship and in one spirit. You are starting with the smallest church there is. All you need to then do is build from there by adding extra numbers.

If you keep that unity as it builds, you cannot fail. No matter what you set out to do you cannot fail. You cover one another as a team. You motivate one another, and when one is down the other is up.

You need at least a team of two. If you are a married person your spouse should be the first person on your team.

But even in marriages today people are squabbling, fighting, and doing their own thing. They are just living under the same roof as two different people when they should be united as one.

The two should become one with one purpose and goal. They should be united in serving God and multiplying that power.

I just cannot emphasize the importance of recognizing that you cannot do this alone. You need others to work with you.

You may find others who are way below you or not quite as capable as you. You will have to trust them. You may have to take the time to teach them and show them what you know until they rise up and take their place.

But you should continually be working towards that goal. Do not try to aim for that one goal that you have, whether it be a goal to rise up financially, in ministry, business, or the arts. Whatever it is don't try to do it alone.

Ask God to bring you at least one person who can work with you. Preferably let Him bring you a whole group of people who can work with you.

Who do you know right now that could become part of your team? Who do you know that you could begin to pour into and share with, that they could help carry this burden for you?

If you can follow this route, then like the builders of the tower of Babel, absolutely nothing will be impossible for you!

So take a fresh look at your goals, your dreams, your hopes, and what you are wanting to do. Take a fresh look at it and ask yourself,

"Could I not perhaps have reached my goals a long time ago if I enlisted more people and trusted more people to work with me on this?"

Yes in the end they may get some of the rewards and you are going to get less. They may get recognized and you may lose some of the recognition. There will always be a price to pay.

In the realm of sports, I find it interesting that when a sports team wins a match or an event and a prize or a cup is given, the whole team doesn't go forward to get it. Just the leader or the captain does, and yet together they have created this and together they get the honor.

There will always be leaders that God raises up. And if you will pay the price, you can become one of those leaders.

You could start out as an ordinary team member doing a very mundane job or task in the team. And as you increase your ability, God will increase you, until you come to the place where eventually you become the leader of your own team.

Wrapping it Up

The whole concept of teamwork is absolutely vital and I have done an entire series on the importance of teams.

If you want to you can purchase the book. It was published a long time ago, but it will teach you everything that is involved in learning to be both a leader of a team and a member of a team.

Without it, you are not going to reach the goals that you desire. And without it, I'm afraid you are not going to be able to experience this abundant life that the Lord has for each one of us.
